My dad gave me the biggest canvas he thought would fit in my car, and I decided the only thing to do with a canvas that big was to paint an elephant. This is one of the bull elephants we saw in Kruger National Park, coming out of the dust, alert, listening, walking. An everyday elephant throws dust and mud on himself to cool off, so he's covered in rusty reds and browns and purple highlights, and it was very fun to paint this old codger.
